ALEXANDRIA, VA—The board of directors of ASCD, the nation's leading association for K-12 educator professional development, announced today that Sandy Husk has been named as interim executive director and chief executive officer. Husks appointment follows last week's announcement that Ranjit Sidhu would step down as executive director and CEO.
"We are fortunate to have a leader of Husk's experience and expertise as we continue to grow and empower educators," said Dr. Avis Williams, ASCD board president.
"I am excited to be selected to serve as ASCD's interim executive director and CEO," said Husk. "In the coming months I will be working tirelessly with the board, staff, ASCD members, authors, and stakeholders to ensure a smooth leadership transition."
Husk is a life-long educator who brings decades of leadership experience to ASCD. Prior to this appointment, Husk was chief executive officer of AVID Center, a national education non-profit focused on closing the opportunity gap and preparing all students for college and careers. She also served on ASCD's board of directors.
Before taking the helm at AVID, Husk served as a school superintendent for seventeen years in Colorado, Tennessee, and Oregon. She also held roles as principal of an elementary and alternative middle school; staff development coordinator; elementary school counselor; and teacher.
The board of directors previously announced that they had immediately begun a nationwide search for ASCD's next CEO and executive director.
