Before educators can begin to address the needs of their students, they must first take stock of their own mental and emotional capacity—what leadership coaches and ASCD authors Jane A.G. Kise and Ann C. Holm call "bandwidth." In 2019, Kise and Holm developed a survey to help educators assess the factors that contribute to stress and burnout and refill their mental fuel tanks. The survey is available on the ASCD website.
To better understand how to use the survey in your school, check out the ASCD webinar, "Educator Bandwidth, Burnout, and Blameless Discernment," Kise and Holm hosted in June 2022. The hour-long video is full of guidance on how to recharge and reinvest in a healthier working environment this fall.
